Strange…

20 July 2003

Since I got DeadAIM, I figured I’d run several of my old screen names at the same time to see if anyone would log on. Well, somebody did… An older lady that I somehow had started talking to years ago. I believe at the time, she’d recently lost her husband and… not to hyperbolize it, but I think she didn’t expect she’d be as happy again. Well, now she’s remarried with a 14-month-old boy and she says she’s “there”… right where she’d want her life to be, which is great.

I thought I saw the convo coming… I was going to realize that, in this time that she’d made so much of her life and after so much having gone through, I’d sorta had some ups and downs, some crazy experiences, and wound up in the same place. But… That convo didn’t occur. Instead she insisted on showing me a pic of her boy, which is fine. I’m happy for her. I guess I just expected her to want to listen a little more about me, because that’s what I think I’d do. If I were living on cloud nine, everything as I wanted it, I’d be living for my friends, for everyone I knew, trying to get them right there with me. Hell, I’ve done that a lot already without ever being on cloud nine. Except lately…

Not sure what point this all comes to, but I think it must. Time for bed… sleep, if I’m lucky.

My life is rated PG-13.
What is your life rated?

Of course, this assumes we exclude my behavior while driving… Cursing and such can drag it to a definite ‘R’.

But I’m just fine with the PG-13 rating. Keeps the potential audience nice & open. I’m sure most of my flicks would fall under PG-13, or if R, only because of a moderate, realistic use of cursing.

Yeah, long time no update, but not much to say, so no big recap.

Tonight I started doing a little… ahem… drug research for my Midsummer Night’s Dream adaptation, Trip. Was looking to see if LSD had any aphrodesiac effects, and instead stumbled onto a lot of junk about ecstasy. (According to the page I found, ecstasy is related to LSD? I’d read a lot about ecstasy and never heard that. Yep, just checked… Ecstasy a.k.a MDMA is actually chemically similar to methamphetamine.)

So that page leads me to an “Ecstasy Trip Testimonials” website, where people share their favorite memories of “rollin’”, trippin’, etc. Reading through a number of them, I found a repeating phrase throughout: “best time of my life”. Good grief. I shudder to imagine requiring a pill to have my life’s greatest moment. Yeah, I know… I’ve done my share of drinking. But even the better of those memories are always tainted by the very notion that they were alcohol-induced.

Sigh… Almost contemplated scrapping Trip altogether, until I remembered the point of the story: the drugs mess things up, confuse everything. So yeah, I don’t think I’ll be encouraging drug abuse with this story. I might even have an opportunity to even present a subtle moral lesson on the matter, without coming off as preachy. But I will definitely NOT be using Ecstasy as the drug in question.
