Waking Moments
28 October 2003Very strange… Had a little dose of ESP this morning.
I guess I should give a life update. Not much is new… I actually have $100 to my name between paychecks, and that’s even with an unexpected $300 mechanic’s bill, so finances aren’t much of an issue right now. I’m once again working heavily on the website (Smart-Popcorn.com), again despite what seems to be quickly waning interest from the new blood, so I’m not sure why I should bother. I’d rather not worry about it, start working out again, try to write my stories, and so forth… I think I’m going to delegate the website business to certain days, weekends maybe. Yeah.
Anyhow, about the ESP… As I was pulling myself out of bed, I had a very distinct flash of an image of Genelle’s screen name. It was vividly visual, like a dream, but it was just momentary and I was pretty conscious otherwise… I feel it was just a sign or a message saying, “Hey, if youl get online this morning, you’ll see something new from Genelle.” And sure enough, brief as it was, there was a new entry in her online Florence journal. Strange how those things happen.
It’d probably lead someone to believe I’m thinking about her a lot, but (sorry Genelle) actually Erin has been much more on my mind. Our brief conversation before she left for Russia has stuck with me, and I’m relating all too well to her feeling that all her friends were dropping off the wayside, either wholly consumed in their own lives or totally uninviting or altogether missing. I wonder if she’ll return feeling the same way, because although I guess I should be hopeful she doesn’t, it would be nice to have someone to talk to & relate to about that, and not feel like one another is just the type we’re talking about.
Eh, but anyhow… I guess I should get ready for work. Peace.
CSS
23 October 2003Ahem… If not made obvious already by the TLA, this is geek talk.
After years of hearing tidbits about it and thinking, “Stylesheets? We don’t need no stinking stylesheets!” I’ve finally come around. Would you believe it… I’m enjoying the heck out of it.
For anyone who doesn’t know and might care, Cascading Stylesheets (CSS) are an extension of sorts to web pages. It offers a lot more flexibility and simplicity than plain HTML code, and some pretty nifty bonus features. I’m still not convinced on its usefulness in creating the structure of a page… I see numerous advantages and disadvantages between CSS and old-fashioned table hacks. But what I really get a kick out of are things like this. Before CSS, rollovers had to be done in JavaScript… ick. Now, for text links, they can be quickly defined by the status of the link (visited, hover, active, etc.). Of course, that’s really just icing on the cake. I can put content first in the page and still have it desplayed below other elements such as the menu. I can change text properties for an entire site all in one spot. Get this: I can even produce different versions of a site: one for screen, one for print… even one for handheld devices like PDAs and cellphones! (And I plan to do that… It actually won’t be too difficult.) It also looks like, if I’m wise in using it, it’ll save me a fair amount of bandwidth as well.
Just a thought…
20 October 2003If a black cat crossing your path is bad luck, a monarch butterfly doing the same must be pretty good, right?
Holy Crap!
7 October 2003Wow! When I saw the Sox had lost the first two games to the A’s and were down 1-0, I stuck a fork in them and didn’t look back. But they came back? Holy crapola! Now… ick… They’ve gotta play the Yankees. That’s gonna be a tough fight, but god, wouldn’t it be awesome? The Cubbies and the Sox in a world series together? Friggin’ awesome, that’d be.
Go Sox! Go Cubs! Get yer peanuts and crackajacks!
