Me too!
23 August 20051) Reply with your name and I’ll respond with something random about you.
2) I’ll tell you what song/movie reminds me of you.
3) I’ll pick a flavor/color of jello to wrestle with you in.
4) I’ll say something that only makes sense to you and me.
5) I’ll tell you my first memory of you.
6) I’ll tell you what animal you remind me of.
7) I’ll ask you something that I’ve always wondered about you.
8) If I do this for you, you must post this on your journal. You MUST. It is written.
(Just for clarification, respond with a “Do me, do me!” and let me know who you are and I’ll answer these questions about you. Then you must post the same survey on your LJ and I will hound you until you answer them about me. Cool? =D )
ThomTV’s Pimp My Rob
15 August 2005Thought it was time again to gush over my friend Rob’s good fortune as a writer.
It’s official. (In fact, it’s been official.) Rob is the writer on Advent Rising: Rock the Planet, a comic-book prequel of the Advent Rising video game. It’s starting off as a six-issue mini series, with a double-sized first issue… From what I’ve heard about the book’s universe (in the most general of terms), it’s both broad & immersive, so with any luck Rob might get an ongoing gig with this.
Oh, and shhh… A little bird told me that a familiar name and/or face might show up in a frame or two. Hmm… Who might that be? O:-)
The first issue is due in stores October 26, and will be 57-pages long for just $2.25–a terrific price for a double issue. The publishers, Bill Jemas and the rest at 360ep, will surely take a hit with this move, but what they want more than money is to have people read the book. So do me a favor… If you’re at all a comic-book reader/collector, or if you’re a gamer (as I’m told the game’s pretty tight too), call your local comic shop TODAY and request that they order a copy of Advent Rising: Rock the Planet. Request two. Request five–one in five is a variant cover. Or just one, one would be fine.
And while you wait for October 26, subscribe to Rob’s blog: http://www.thanator.com He’s got some art up there already, and the linked-to CBR articles have even more.
Does the Chandler Dance… AGAIN!
11 August 2005Oh, yeah… My personal best writing day today. 1042 words. (Ok, honestly, 400 were sitting & waiting in another Word doc, but I’m counting them for the total, dammit!)
And I’m done with Chapter 2!
On to Chapter 3.
A Novel Approach
9 August 2005Decided it would be cool (and perhaps a motivating factor) to graph my writing progress in terms of word count. Take a look:

That’s total words. Here’s a look at daily averages:

The blue line tracks the average number of words per each writing session. The red line offers a “worst case” average by dividing words per session by days between sessions, and the dotted yellow line is a cumulative average from the beginning. According to this, I’m writing an average of 339 words per day so far… which sucks. Words per session is somewhat better at 634, but I’d like to be at the 1000 word point for both.
I suppose I’m procrastinating too much. You know, like making charts and crap instead of writing. :-P Guess I’d better get back to it.
(By the way, these graphs will be changing as my writing progresses, so don’t expect them to look the same.)
Teen (or Twentysomething) Angst
7 August 2005Ha ha… I was playing with ljArchive–searching all the entries that contain the word “fuck”–and happened upon this entry:
“I can see it in her eyes, I can see things that I haven’t seen in her eyes for me. And I’m not bitter about that, I’m so glad. I’m truly anxious to see what great things they will come upon together.
But at the same time, “FUCK GOD DAMMIT CHRIST ALMIGHTY!” What is the point in my life?”
Maybe I shouldn’t be, but I’m thoroughly amused by my behavior–angst, as Kaleena so aptly identified it. Just so silly… Though I certainly still believe there are things in the world worth getting worked up about, and love is chief among them. I dunno, I guess it’s that looking back I know I could’ve handled the situation so much better, but also that all the hard feelings have passed… One of the most emotionally trying points in my life, and now it’s officially something I can “look back and laugh at”. A testament to the resiliency of human nature.
Anyhow… Back to the future. Or the present.
Went to Kaleena’s last night for a DVDrink night, as per usual, but we had a special guest. Bink came… Yes, Thom brought company! Come to think of it, this is the first time I’ve had different friends hang out with one another since… Danté and Jeanette. (Oh, that’s why I haven’t repeated it.) But god, it was a hilarious night. We watched Bad Santa before the al-key-hol really kicked in, at which point we just sat around talking about shit–kids from high school, just various stuff, I don’t even remember most of it–but we were mostly laughing our asses off. And I think Kaleena enjoyed having Bink over even more than I did… She so does swing between the trees. :-P (The former, I mean.) It was almost like bringing a girl over to Dante’s–but not quite. Way more comfortable. I’m gonna rename Kaleena “The Icebreaker”. (Better than Bink’s new nickname.)
Bink’s already down for another movie night… I think it might be wisie not to get quite so drunk, so I can actually remember more of what was said (I’m not quite the lucid drunk I used to be.) and feel out the situation better. I think Kaleena would agree that Christine’s just “way cool” on the scale of cool, and you know me… I’m terrible at playing things cool. Not that I’m interested in a relationship right now, ugh, but people are just few and far between whose company I can thoroughly enjoy.
In other news… I’ve only written a couple pages in the past week, just haven’t gotten my head in the right mode for it. Maybe I should try my ritalin again. :-P If anyone uses Semagic (the superior Windows LJ client) and Object Dock or RK Launcher, I created a PNG-format icon for such purposes. Here ye be:

Hmm, is there anything else to cover? Nope, don’t think so. Till next time!
I take this quiz every so often.
